it did what it was suppose to do December 24, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
it did what it was suppose to. it really helps to "remind" me to be careful with the five-O. since i got this, i haven't got a ticket yet. i kinda wish it would tell me where the cops or camera detectors are located thou
Good value for the money December 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Seems to work perfectly fine. Extra blue lights on the side are very helpful. Already saved me from a lot of trouble. Very good value for this kind of price.
Whistler XTR-140 Detector December 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Nice unit. Easily understood and user friendly. Appears to be highly functional in detecting older radars and lasers used by law enforcement in my local area. However, I have encountered several South Dakota Highway Patrol cars that are not triggering the detector. As it is highly unlikely that the Patrol has changed their routines used to detect speed. I have to believe the Patrol is using equipment not detected by the XTR-140 and as such I cannot put complete faith in my detector.
i have never wrote 1 of these things. December 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
i bought this xtr-140 detector about a week ago online due to receaving about 4 speeding tickets in the last couple months. it was almost 50 dollars less than the exact same 1 at bestbuy. today on drive home it beeped for the first time since i hooked it up then beeped more blue led lights light up and went nutts. it picked up a cops radar on the other side of a huge hill and down a straight stretch of road about a half mile. and the cheapest speeding ticket ive receaved has been 175 dollars, so this detector has paid for itself over three times allready on its first use. this is the first detector i have ever owed and didnt really know how to compare all the differant options these things have or what they even ment. the blue led lights are extreamly bright and noticable and the beep is a extreamly high pitch, it also has a volume up down turn nob so you can also turn the load beeps off and just use the blue led lights. like i said before i have never wrote about a item before or owned a detector but would definately recommend this detector to anyone looking for one and allready have.
Good cheap Radar Detector / without the bells and whistles u never use November 23, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Ok, this is my 2nd "Cheap" (read below $50) radar detector. The earlier one was from Cobra (very good too). I'd planned to get the same model for my wife's car as well (she recently got a ticket :( ). But while browsing Amazon I came across this model, good / cheap / functional. What i liked was the "Blue" indicator lights (really cool at night) and the visual signal strength meter.
Both are very similar, however for $5 more the Whistler is a little bit more sensitive (both give u enough time to slow down). However the audible alerts on the Cobra are more pleasant... u know the tonal quality and stuff. The whistler audible alerts are very harsh... and if u live in a city zone like me.. that means constant irritating noise from the harmless radar doors, safety radars, etc...
Otherwise, the cobra is smaller (+1 point). Whistler has longer cord (+0.5)
Overall both are good and for under $50 each, I'd say get one of both yourself. Good investments against tickets / insurance rate hike...
Other than the audible alerts, I like the whistler better though :-)
Hope this helps.
