Software crashes and Janes no help! November 12, 2008 A good game. When it runs! Every game says, 688i has encountered a ploblem and will shut down, Sorry for the inconvenience" Sorry my [...]...fix the blasted software. I have heard Janes has similar problems with it's other games as well. Save your money. This is a DOS dud.
688I February 15, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Jane's 688I hunter/killer simulation is a very good modern submarine simulation if you are into that kind of thing. You have a scenario editor that is very similar to the editor in Jane's Fleet Command and Sub Command by Electronic Arts. You have command of one, of many of the 688I class of submarines in the United States Navy. You have options such as unlimited fuel, ammunition, and vulnerability. Me and my friends play it sometimes. Paul Corti. Briarwood, NY United States.
Great Fun, but behind the times in SSN capability July 26, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Given the title, that I entered, I understand why the game cannot exactly match the present SSN capabilities. That does not keep me from wanting it to, however. The new 533mm torpedos that the Navy uses such as the MK50 and the CAPTOR mines ought to be included as well (classification permitting). If you have the patience (and I do as an old sub sailor), you can use your wit, your boat's loadout and condition plus the weather and thermocline layer to play a really good game. The opponent is usually as good or better than you and that makes for some real head scratching at times.
Brought Back Memories... October 17, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I served on submarines... This game had a very familiar feel about it! However, if you are not familiar with submarine operations there may be a learning curve, but it will definitly be worth the effort... Enjoy!
