Amazon.com Review Ontrack SystemSuite 2000 is one of the few utility suites available on the market that offers a completely useful mix of tools in a single package. Best of all, the utilities are integrated and work on Windows 95, 98, 2000, and NT. Installation took only a few minutes (including a system reboot), and we suddenly had an antivirus program, several hard drive utilities, system recovery software, an uninstaller, a powerful file compression package, and several other utilities at our disposal. All the tools are accessible from a slick, integrated interface that includes several quick-access menus and controls for novices. Advanced users can dig a little deeper into the software to configure advanced options. The antivirus software, VirusScanner 2000, comes with one year of free virus definitions updates and is simple to configure. EasyUninstall 2000 is an application that tracks programs as they are installed so it can completely remove all traces of the software should you want to uninstall it. It also has advanced capabilities like the ability to move programs to different drives and folders, or compressing installed programs so they take up less space but retain all the customized settings you established when the software is decompressed and reinstalled. The real core of this package is the hard drive utility suite, Fix-It Utilities 2000. In addition to a program that will quickly defragment and optimize your hard drive (it worked faster in ours tests than the disk defragmenter that comes with Windows 98) you receive all manner of disaster recovery tools. The software comes with an emergency boot diskette that can be updated as much as you like so the system can be accessed and restored when major trouble strikes. Other tools optimize the Windows registry and fix hard drive errors that could lead to serious trouble if left alone. We purposely caused our test PC to fail several times and never had any trouble restoring it as long as we stuck to the directions given in the thick printed manuals that round out this powerful yet easy-to-use package. --T. Wasted money on this product September 13, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had a broken FAT, and the DiskFixer utility did not recognize the broken drive. The only reason I bought SystemSuite was to recover data on a damaged boot partition drive. The drive was visible to Windows Explorer, but when I clicked on it, Explorer said it was not formatted. SystemSuite's DiskFixer didn't even show it as a selection to fix! I tried the PC Diagnostics tool, and that saw the drive and said it was fine. Their FixUp Wizard just skipped the drive. The File Undeleter did not see this drive. V Communications Technical Support's answer was to try to sell me Data Recovery services. Useless set of tools. R-Studio from R-TT worked GREAT!!!
Program Crashes/No Support! July 18, 2000 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Have had nothing but trouble trying to use this product. It crashes each time I try cookie removal, disk defrag, scandisk, etc... Had to reinstall w/98 in order to get control of my system back.Have tried several e-mails over a one week span trying to get Ontract support... Yet, as of this writing, I have had absolutely no reply other than their immediate automated replies acknowledging each of my e-mails. I would not recommend this product to anyone unless they also want to face the probability of a great deal of lost time i.e.... Having to reinstall w/98 and rebuild their system. I'm totally disappointed in the product and in the support, as well as in the reviews on this site, which were a major factor in my buying decision... Will be returning Ontract's System Suite 2000 and requesting a full refund!
Complete and simple May 14, 2000 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I used to use Norton's utility software before switching to Ontrack. My main problem with Norton was that is was a little 'bulky' on my machine and bogged down its overall performance. After switching to Ontrack I specifically liked two things. The interface is very nicely organized - comprehensive, intuitive, and complete. Second, using the utlities is simple, straightforward, and fast.
Excellent Product -- Best Utility April 20, 2000 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I've been using SS2000 for a couple of months after being a Norton user for years, I won't go back. The product is fast, efficient, and completely integrated.I had a corrupt file system and the Crisis Center led me directly to the Ontrack data recovery service where, unbelievably, their engineers recovered my entire 13GB drive via an Internet connection in less than an hour.
Fast & Utile March 28, 2000 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
This utility is a must-have for web-browsing. The clean-up (of Internet History, Cache, ActiveX, Cookies & Plug-ins) after every session is remarkably fast and efficient. It's worth the price for the system registry cleaner and fixer by themselves, but has MANY other worthwile functions and uses far less memory than Norton.
