Zero Tech Support, Cannot contact anyone at Acronis. December 16, 2008 If you have any problems you will not be able to get any tech support. In fact it is highly unlikely that you will ever be able to reach anyone at Acronis. I tried repeatedly using every method possible and nothing worked. Look for another product. Definitely not recommended. The product will not work with external drives.
Backup Software That Really Works November 18, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have spent too much money and time trying out all kinds of backup software that fails in one way or another. My OS is Windows 2000, which does not have System Restore. Therefore, a functioning backup program is critical to me.
The problem with other software is that they produce a list of error messages stating that various files could not be backed up. What good is that? I don't have that problem with Acronis True Image 9.0.
Other restore programs attempt to overwrite the backed-up files on top of the existing files, creating a bad mix of the files you want with the files you don't want. Acronis solves this problem by totally wiping your hard drive during a full restore, and then reinstalling all of your backed-up files on a clean drive. No fuss, no muss. As a result, all the restores I've done so far have been flawless.
The fun thing about Acronis True Image 9.0 is that I can now experiment with all kinds of new software I've wanted to install and try out. I no longer have to worry about someone's nasty program horribly messing up my computer. Now, if the worst happens, so what? All I have to do is boot my computer using the Acronis Rescue Disk, and then instruct it to reinstall the backup located on a second storage drive. In less than 10 minutes, my computer is back and happy the way it was before anything happened.
After purchasing this product, do not install it. Instead, go to their website and register your license code. There's an available free upgrade to download. Install that instead. It has a few additional features which Acronis felt necessary to program in.
Acronis True Image 9.0 is very user-friendly, and not cluttered with hundreds of complicated options.
REVIEW UPDATE (March 2008): This software is now being given away for free by Seagate under a different name. They're calling it DiscWizard. This is not the same DiscWizard they had several years ago. When you install and run the program, Acronis' name is all over it. Seagate has added a few additional features, but it is 100% Acronis True Image 9.0.
REVIEW UPDATE (DECEMBER 2008): This version does not work with the newer SATA drives. You will need to get Acronis 2009 and Windows XP. In spite of the many negative reviews, I gave Acronis 2009 a 5-Star review, because it works even better.
Reasonably easy to use, but a caveat. December 20, 2006 It only took one hard disk crash to make me pay attention to the need to back up. I back up all files and folders at least daily to an external HD; I bought Acronis to create a disk image backup so that I could restore everything as it was to a new HD in case of a crash; I create a new disk image backup at least monthly. Warnings: run checkdisk /f before creating the disk image, to be sure there are no file errors; and veriy the backup. I tried to restore the disk image, only to discover it wouldn't restore because of file errors. Fortunately, restoring the disk image turned out not to be necessary, and I was still able to restore an important file from the backup.
Acronis 10.0 November 9, 2006 Outstanding backup software! Never a problem. Easy to use. Beats Norton Ghost. Ghost was a constant problem. Many computer crtashes.
Not ready for primetime November 6, 2006 Purchased to do a full backup of my hard drive. Seemed to install just fine but backup procedure produces nothing but error messages. Wish I had tried the trial version first. Don't buy this until you know for sure it will work with your system.
