Superb Firewall, Caching, Proxy software March 23, 2001

Great security product from Microsoft. And it's also good web caching and proxy software.Wizards make installation straight-forward. Lots of options that can be configured. The software can operate as either a Firewall or as Web Cache or both. If you want to setup a VPN, there is a wizard that makes it a snap. Incredibly simple. Requires Windows 2000 service pack 1 before installing. If you're running MS Proxy 2.0, this will import your previous settings. Packet filtering options are great. Can configure certain events to send email, or simply log to the Win2000 Event log. Can configure SMTP so that arriving email that contains specific types of attachments are rejected or delayed (for inspection). (For example, any email containing ".exe" or ".vbs" can be stopped.) Also, email from certain addresses or domains can be rejected. These SMTP filters may not be possible however if you install ISA Server on the same machine that runs MS Exchange. I haven't figured that one out for certain yet. I remember getting a warning message that if the SMTP filter is enabled, something regarding Exchange RPC ... ? ... Lots of good features !
