Amazon.com Product Description Sundial is a software program that displays time-lapse photography on your computer desktop behind all windows and icons. After you install and configure Sundial, it will automatically display an image from the scene you selected every time you start your computer, then update it periodically over the course of the day. The exact image displayed at any moment depends on the current time of day, the date, and your geographic location. Sundial calculates the time of sunrise, sunset, dawn, and dusk at your location and arranges for these events to occur at the same time on your computer. Sundial can also display still pictures on your desktop that do not change. Sundial movies come on CD-ROM in high-quality 24 bpp color in three sizes (640 x 480, 832 x 624, and 1,024 x 768) for maximum display quality on different monitor sizes. Larger sizes are also available for a nominal charge. The movies display a new image every five minutes for an entire 24 hours, and the transition between the images is smooth and virtually instantaneous. This version of Sundial features 10 scenes from Hawaii, including the City of Refuge, a view overlooking the Na Pali coast, Waikiki Beach, and Oahu Beach. Each scene contains 24 hours worth of images, which you can preview in seconds prior to selecting your favorite scene.

Correction on previous comments July 7, 2006 In regards to comments made earlier by Ms. Hendricks ("Wordmama") that Sundial does not work if you connect via dial-up modem, that is absolutely NOT true!! For several years, I have used this software on computers with via dial-up, and the software works just fine (both when I'm connected & not connected on-line). Later, when I started using broadband, the software continued to work fine.
I am currently selling my copy because this software is not supported on my Mac laptop with the Intel chip (which no longer runs "Classic OS 9" apps), nor on my Windows XP laptop. :-( Otherwise, I would have rated this a 5 star application, and I miss running it on my computers.
Great if you have cable ... October 4, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This sounds like a great idea, but it's not workable if you connect via a dial-up modem. The scenes don't change unless you're online, see. So thanks for a great idea, but maybe I'll keep looking.
My favorite thing about my computer February 10, 2002 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I have had Sundial Hawaii on my desktop for the past year or so. Its breathtaking pictures always bring a smile to my face, as they remind me of my wonderful past vacations to the Islands. Whenever I am in the mood to escape and wish I could be back in the warm sun of Honolulu's Waikiki Beach, all I have to do is take a look at my computer monitor and daydream of being there. It's wonderful to watch people walking along the beach or boats going out to sea. I especially love how the scene changes with the time of day, so each day I have the chance to watch a Hawaiian sunset. I've even had friends ask me how they can get their own copy. The only problem with Sundial is that it can be very tempermental at times - and by that I mean that it needs a lot of memory allocated to it to work well or the application will quit on you. Also a good quality, high resolution monitor is ideal for the best picture---I have a Mac and its graphics work excellently with Sundial.
