not worth the box it comes in December 6, 2007 (Amazon made me give it a rating - otherwise this product would get no stars)
I bought this at a local Target store to try and make a video slideshow of an event to be shown on a dvd player. Tried for a half hour, and gave up. Reading some of the other reviews, I'm not alone, so I don't feel so bad.
Doesn't Allow Multiple Songs Over Slideshows September 4, 2007 I got DVD Architect 4.0 to create a DVD from my vacation; I have a few short digital video clips and a couple hundred photos. This software works okay for overall DVD menu creation and inserting videos, but fails miserably when it comes to slideshows - you can only add one song to play in the background! So if you have a 15-minute long photo slideshow and a 4-minute song, you'll get 11 minutes of silence after the song is over.
This shortcoming is even more baffling (and irritating) when you realize that DVD Architect will allow you to have multiple audio tracks that start at the beginning of your slideshow. For instance, one track can be a song, another an audio commentary, etc. but you cannot have tracks play one after the other in succession. Adding a commentary or alternate audio track may be a nice feature for a few, but it would seem that a basic, non-professional software title like this specifically priced for and aimed at the average comsumer would allow you to do something far more people would want, namely have more than one song play in the background. The only solution Sony offers is to buy their separate Vegas program at over $500, which will let you create a customized audio track and then import it back into DVD Architect. Why in the world Sony wouldn't just charge a few more dollars and include this feature in DVD Architect is beyond me.
My low-cost or no-cost solution was to splice together multiple MP3s with Audacity (it's free sofwtare available on the web; just Google it and download it) and I had my single giant audio track filled with many songs. But if you're looking for a simple, all-in-one solution, I would avoid DVD Architech and go with another product.
Sony DVD Architect major flaw June 5, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this software to create slideshows of my digital photos. At first I was impressed with the program but when I attempted to add the audio background to the slideshow, I could not figure out how to add more than one song. After hours of reading and numerous unanswered emails to Sony I was tearing my hair out. I had recommended this software to a friend and he called saying he was having the same problem. He informed me that he was able to contact Sony by phone and was told that the program was designed to only allow one song to be added. He suggested that I purchase an additional Sony software package for $520.00 that would allow more than one song to be added to the background. Yeah right... Sony DVD Architect 4.0 is a very nice, well designed package that allows easy manipulation of photos and movies but allowing only one musical cut as background music is a cheap bait-and-switch tactic that makes this just another piece of software that is going into the trash can for me. As a word of warning... do your research carefully before laying out your money for software. I didn't and I wasted fourty some dollars and several days.
Great stuff April 20, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This software is perfect for what it is designed to do, which is make DVD's from media files. It is not a video editor, if that is what you're looking for. But if you need something to make nice DVD's with media files that are already ready to burn, you won't go wrong with this amazing program.
