A Great Portable, But RAM & Battery Life Insufficient November 17, 2008
Actually, three and half stars.
I have been traveling with the OQO 2 for a month now, and love its form factor, minimal weight, and solid feel. Its keyboard is good, though wee small, especially if compared to the Jornada 720's (or the quirkier 690's). The screen may also be little, but it is very clear (and one may connect the OQO 2 to an external monitor). Hard-drive capacity (120GB) is great for such a small device. On the other hand, though, I am forced to carry two standard batteries on most short-haul flights (unless I fly business, where a power point may be present), because a charge will rarely last more than one hour thirty minutes, particularly when a movie is played. Besides, even when background antivirus operation is suspended and the media player is granted high priority, frames are skipped intermittently. I reckon that adding 1GB RAM or replacing the VIA with a faster processor could solve this. Some noise and heating are present, but nothing I would worry about. Finally, running Win XP Pro is a bonus (this OQO came with XP Pro, Vista Business, and Tablet PC disks).
